Assistant Attorney/Junior Legal Advisor
At Plesner, our education for Assistant Attorneys and Junior Legal Advisors provides professional challenges and experiences within a dedicated team.

As an Assistant Attorney or Junior Legal Advisor, you gain comprehensive insights into the legal profession. You advance your theoretical understanding, you practice law, and you get the opportunity to work with clients from some of Denmark’s largest companies – always with the support of an experienced lawyer by your side. Mentorship is integral to our approach, ensuring that you learn and receive feedback from experienced colleagues throughout your education.

You will be assigned an experienced colleague as your talent developer, to closely monitor your progress throughout your education. You grow your network and gain a comprehensive understanding of different sectors and industries, enabling you to become a skilled lawyer and advisor.

Educational Program for Assistant Attorneys

Introduction

You will be introduced to the business of Plesner and gain a wide perspective and understanding of the legal industry and profession. A partner or experienced lawyer will provide continuous feedback on your cases, ensuring that you gradually evolve and gain professional experience and confidence.

Assistant Attorney Education

A three-year program divided into three tracks: The role of the advisor, law, and communication. The educational content will evolve as greater demands are placed on your performance in casework and interactions with colleagues and clients. By the end of this program, you will have gained a comprehensive understanding of Plesner's business, a knowledge of the legal frameworks within Plesner's areas of expertise, as well as negotiation and rhetorical skills, making you a value-adding advisor.

Education for attorney-at-law

Plesner's Assistant Attorney program is followed by the mandatory education offered by the Danish Bar and Law Society (Advokatsamfundet. This program focuses on fundamental legal skills and provides insights into the unique role lawyers play in society. By the end of the training, there will be a written exam and a practical or theoretical litigation test.

Year 1

From cand.jur to Plesner

During your first year as an Assistant Attorney, you transition from the academic and theoretical environment of the university to practicing  law. You learn to translate your theoretical knowledge into value-adding advice for our clients, as well as organizing your work-life to achieve a sensible balance between tasks and effort.

What do I gain?

You receive instructions in the legal subjects relevant to your daily work. Thus, you will benefit from these subjects regardless of the sector you are associated with. Additionally, you will be taught logical argumentation.

Year 2

The Role of the Specialist

By now, you have settled into your team and become familiar with the duties of an Assistant Attorneys. You actively participate in internal and external collaborations, and you have gained a fundamental understanding of the work as a lawyer within your team. The time has come to turn your attention to other sectors.

What do I gain? 

You will learn to establish strong collaborative relations across practice areas and sectors. This will benefit you in your daily work, in which you increasingly engage in interdepartmental collaboration. In the legal track, additional subjects related to Plesner's sectors will be introduced, and your education will focus on the legal tasks and issues encountered by the different departments in their daily operations.

Year 3

The Role of the Advisor

During your third year as an Assistant Attorney, you will increasingly assume independent responsibility for your cases and engage in direct communication with clients, their advisors, and other external stakeholders. Moving forward, you will concentrate on providing independent advice to your clients based on their specific needs and business.                                                       

What do I gain?

You will become proficient in techniques, which help you uncover your clients' needs and develop skills within problem solving as an advisor. You will receive instruction in negotiation techniques, enabling you to act more independently in relation to clients. Additionally, you will be taught how to communicate complex messages effectively. You will delve into the remaining parts of Plesner’s practice areas. The education focus on the tasks and cases from the daily operations of the different departments.

Exam

BAR EXAM (Advokateksamen)

Your bar exam consists of a written examination and a practical or theoretical court trial test. Prior to the written exam, you receive instructions and guidance in the exam subjects that are drawn.

Court Trial Test (Retssagsprøven)

As part of your preparation for the court trial test, you will have access to courses and coaching led by experienced colleagues. Additionally, you get the option to attend a series of main hearings to become acquainted with the practices of Plesner's lawyers in court.

Educational Program for Junior Legal Advisors

Our Junior Legal Advisors have the opportunity to participate in the educational program for Legal Advisors in the legal industry. The program is structured around an introduction day, five mandatory courses, and an elective course, collectively providing a fundamental foundation for providing legal advice in a law firm. The program includes both a written and an oral examination.

Introduction Day

You will be introduced to the educational program and its various courses. We discuss the role of a law advisor in the legal industry and explore possible career paths. Additionally, we address your expectations for the training and the initiation of networking opportunities.

Courses

A program consisting of five mandatory courses and an elective course covering the following topics: Professional ethics, the client-advisor relationship, negotiation, and communication. Upon completion of the courses, you have built a fundamental foundation for providing legal advice in a law firm.

Examinations

There will be two exams during the program:

  • A written exam in Professional Ethics I and III halfway through the program.
  • An oral exam in the delivery of a presentation on a self-selected topic. Participants are assessed based on their ability to convey their topic effectively.
