Plesner involved in Europe's first full-scale CCS facility

Case News
Today, we had the pleasure of attending the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Greensand project’s CO₂ terminal at Port Esbjerg – a key milestone in establishing Europe’s first full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain. The terminal will serve as a critical hub in Denmark’s and the EU’s CO₂ infrastructure, and we extend our warm congratulations to INEOS Energy, Port Esbjerg, and all other parties involved in making this landmark project a reality.

Once completed, the terminal will feature six large holding tanks, each capable of storing approximately 1,000 tonnes of liquefied CO₂ before it is shipped to the Greensand reservoir in the Danish North Sea. The site will also include all the necessary infrastructure for offloading and transporting CO₂ – forming a critical hub in Denmark’s and the EU’s future CCS infrastructure.

We are proud to act as legal counsel to INEOS on this pioneering initiative, which represents an important step toward achieving national and European climate goals.
