Vis Moot
Do you want to take part in the world’s most prestigious moot?
The Moot involves a dispute arising out of a contract of sale between two entities from countries that are parties to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and is conducted as an international arbitration in English. Each team is to prepare memoranda for claimant and respondent and is to plead the case before a number of international arbitrators in Vienna during Easter week. In particular the latter is typically a great experience for the students.
The competition has existed for 32 years, and every year it attracts students from almost 400 universities around the world. This year, the University of Copenhagen and Plesner Law Firm will set up a Vis Moot team that is to participate in the 2025-2026 Vis Moot taking place during the period October 2025 - April 2026.
The Moot is approved for up to 30 ECTS. In order to earn merit points for participation, participants must complete the Moot according to the rules governing the course "Written project" (in Danish: "Afløsningsprojekt"). In this regard, the students will hand in their memoranda to obtain 15 ECTS in the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semester, respectively.
The Moot is a unique chance to become involved in practical law work, and it further provides students with an opportunity to meet other students and practitioners in an international and exciting environment. During spring 2026, the team will travel to 4-5 so-called "Pre-Moots", which are held all over the world. Previously, the team has travelled to destinations such as New York, Boston, London, Paris, Helsinki and Brussels (just to name a few) - and not least to Vienna, where the finals are held.
