Danish law students at the top of the podium in the Plesner Pre-Moot 2019

For the third year running, Plesner hosted its international pre-moot competition in preparation for the annual "Vis Moot", the biggest and most prestigious moot competition world-wide in the field of international commercial arbitration. This year, the team from the University of Copenhagen took the first place amongst the 11 teams selected for the Plesner Pre-Moot.

The 2019 edition of the Plesner Pre-Moot set a new record for the number of participating teams, one of which traveled all the way from New Zealand to take part in the competition. The 11 competing teams came from Wellington (New Zealand), Liège (Belgium), Odense (Denmark), Helsinki (Finland), Pavia (Italy), Nijmegen (the Netherlands), Kiev (Ukraine), Copenhagen (Denmark), Leiden (the Netherlands), Bielefeld (Germany) and Vienna (Austria).

Experienced arbitration practitioners from Denmark and abroad also took part in the Plesner Pre-Moot to evaluate the teams' performance. We would like to thank all the arbitrators for their valuable insights and feedback, which will help the students refine their arguments and advocacy skills before the main competition in Vienna.

...and the first place goes to Copenhagen!

After an exciting final round, the first place in the competition went to six students from the University of Copenhagen.

The following three teams made it to the top-three:

  1. University of Copenhagen (Denmark)
  2. Bielefeld (Germany)
  3. Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand)

As it is tradition at the Plesner Pre-Moot, a prize was also awarded to the best individual oralist. Congratulations to the winner, Rory Josayma, from Victoria University of Wellington.

Vis Moot

The annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot ("Vis Moot") has been running for 26 years consecutive and is the biggest and most prestigious moot competition world-wide in the field of international commercial arbitration. This year, the students are conducting a fictitious case about horse breeding under the Convention on the International Sale of Goods CISG.

The event plays and important role in shaping the new generations of dispute resolution practitioners and also offers a unique venue for experienced professionals to network and discuss contemporary issues of the trade.

Plesner continuously invests in future generations and wants to contribute to the development and sharing of knowledge across borders and legal practice areas. These are some of the reasons why Plesner is organizing an annual pre-moot and is sending a delegation of Plesner lawyers to Vienna to participate as arbitrators in the main competition.
