Amendments to the Danish Medicines Act - the Danish Safety Technology Authority to handle inspection tasks

On 1 January 2019, the Danish Medicines Act was amended so that some of the inspection tasks previously handled by the Danish Medicines Agency are transferred to the Danish Safety Technology Authority. The transfer of competence is a part of the Danish government's decision to delocalize governmental workplaces.

As of 1 January 2019, the Danish Safety Technology Authority will be supervising (1) the retailers' sale of over-the-counter drugs outside pharmacies; (2) the sale of certain iron and vitamin preparations; and (3) the sale of certain antiparasitic drugs for animals outside pharmacies. This appears from Section 44(6) of the Danish Medicine Act. However, the Danish Medicines Agency will still be supervising the online sale of medicines.

Sections 44-46 of the Danish Medicine Act regulate the rules on the Danish Safety Technology Authority's supervision.
