In general, an employer may unilaterally decide that non-material changes to the employment relationship are to enter into force immediately or with an agreed reasonable notice. However, material changes to the employment relationship must be notified with the individual employee's notice of termination. The line between material and non-material changes is not well defined, and it was the drawing of this line that the Danish Eastern High Court was to consider in the case.
